I was going to do these as separate posts this week but I ended up moving some stuff around and both my wrap up and TBR are weak because of my bricks I read in March and the Tome Topple in April. But, let’s just get into the two books I read this month.
I had originally told myself that I would wait to buy this book until it went on Book Outlet. I had plenty of other books on my shelves to read right now. But nope. I couldn’t help the hype. I ended up buying it (of course, a couple days after finishing it, it went on Book Outlet but no regrets paying full price) and I adored every second of it. You can read my full spoiler-free and spoiler review here.
I ended up watching Thoughts on Tomes’ review of this book (which I’ll link here) and she opened my eyes to a lot of problems with this book. I agree with what she was saying but at the same time, I think a lot of it worked for this book. One big thing, it does need more diversity. Hopefully that is fixed with the third book. Which I preordered… As soon as I finished ACOMAF. Overall, I gave this book a 5 out of 5 stars. I adored this book and cannot wait for the next one.
Now this. If you have been following me for a while, you know this is my first time reading the Harry Potter series. I end up listening to most of it on audiobook while following along in the book. I am definitely enjoying the series but I wouldn’t say I’m super obsessed with it like everyone else. Maybe because I waited to read it until I was in my 20s. I love it. I do, don’t get me wrong. I just think for most people it’s nostalgia. Specifically in this book, Harry is just selfish and whiney. Maybe that’s how it’s coming across to me but I do not like Harry too much. I do like Ginny and wish she got more credit for what she has been doing and I think Luna is an… interesting character.
I’m going to end my wrap up by saying that I’ve started the next book and someone needs to push Snape into the lake. JS.
I decided to read three books this month. Those three books are the books that aren’t a part of my Tome Topple TBR. My TBR for that will be going up on April 5th. I’ll try giving little summarizes of what I know about each book. I try going into books without knowing much about it. Let’s do this!
I decided that I wanted to get more diverse reads read this month. I ordered a bunch which you will have seen in my book haul. I drew from my TBR jar until I got books that would fit for diverse reads, or topics that I could choose for both of my challenges. The first that I drew was a topic for my 2017 Reading Challenge. The topic was to read a biography or an autobiography. I decided to choose In Order to Live by Yeonmi Park. This book also fits for the Non-Western (Real World) Setting topic for Diversity Bingo 2017. I know that this book follows a young girl who escaped from North Korea. I don’t know much else but I do have an interest in such stories so I figured I would get around to reading this sooner rather than later.
I also chose “Non-Binary MC (Own Voices).” I chose Every Day by David Levithan. I know this book is about a person who wakes up every day in a different body. There’s a romance somewhere in there. That’s all I know. This book didn’t really catch my interest but I know I’ve been hearing about it a lot on old BookTube videos so I decided I should pick it up and give it a chance!
The next book I chose because the spin-off series is on my Diversity Bingo TBR so I want to get through this series before I crack into that one. And I just made a large purchase (with another about to happen so I can get the books for my Tome Topple TBR) so I don’t want to buy anymore books for a bit. So I decided that I’m going to read Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo. I have the entire Grisha Trilogy so I’m going to try to get through that really quickly so I can get to Six of Crows.
That’s it for this TBR. Those are the three books that I’m going to be reading outside of my Tome Topple books. Like I said, I’m going to be posting my Tome Topple TBR on Wednesday the 5th of April. Tome Topple starts on that Friday, the 7th. I ordered the last couple books I needed for that finally!
Thank you for reading. Let me know your favorite read from March and your most anticipated read of April! Happy reading!
