So I participated in my first readathon and that was Tome Topple. I will leave a link to the GoodReads page here. This readathon is run by Samantha at ThoughtsonTomes on YouTube, Bethany at Bibliophilic Witch on Tumblr, Adriana from Perpetual Pages on YouTube, and Sheema from I’m not entirely sure where so here’s a link to her GoodReads page!
I never thought I would be able to participate and feel accomplished but I somehow managed this time! I read a total of 3 complete tomes and a bit of another. I’ll mention them in the order I read them and give you guys a few of my thoughts.
The first book that I finished was Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by JK Rowling. If you’ve been following me for a while then you’d know that this was my first time reading this book and series. I have to say, I did enjoy them but I feel like I’d like them better if I read them when I was younger. It’s enjoyable for any age but I feel like I would be even more obsessed if I would have read them earlier in my life.
And, you probably can guess it, I read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by JK Rowling. I decided I needed to finish this series. I needed to have it under my read list and I needed to stop stressing about not reading it. I felt like the only one. I also enjoyed this one but I feel like a lot of loose ends were left at the end. There are a few things that I would have liked to hear more about. I won’t say any spoilers for people who haven’t read it yet.
I listened to both of these books on audio. I had it going at 2x the speed and followed along in the book. There were a few differences I saw but I definitely enjoyed listening to Jim Dale read them. I would definitely recommend them. And for anyone who has listened to them, “Harryyyyyyy. Roooon.” That is all.
The last book I finished, which I noticed that a lot of people also read, was Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. I have mixed feelings about this book. I’m coming to realize that I may not like sci-fi books. I thoroughly enjoyed Cinder so I was hoping that I would enjoy this. But nope. The beginning just couldn’t get into it. I loved the ending half of the book and this leads me into the book that I am currently reading and didn’t finish by the time Tome Topple ended. The book is Gemina!
I’m having the same issue with Gemina that I had with Illuminae. I managed to get through 192 pages before Tome Topple officially ended. I tried reading more when I went on my lunch and only got to page 216 before I had to put it down so I didn’t fall asleep. Needless to say, I ended up falling asleep because I was so tired. Once I’m done with typing this up, I’m going to go back to reading it. It’s still a pretty quick read and I thought I was enjoying it. But I don’t know. I’ll have more thoughts in my April Wrap Up (which will be up next week).
So! Let’s do a page count!
Half-Blood Prince: 652
Deathly Hallows: 759
That’s insane. I never thought I would have been able to read that much in two weeks.
I personally think this was a poor time to have Tome Topple. In the middle of it, I had an assignment due. And not only that but I put off working on my final. It’s not due until May but still. I know a lot of people were working on finals during this time. Hopefully next time planning will be better! Either way, I’m so glad I was able to participate.
If you’re wondering about the reading challenges, I didn’t bother with them. I just wanted to read these books and get them done and out of the way.
That’s about it! I hope you enjoyed this! What was your favorite read this Tome Topple (or what’s the last book you finished if you didn’t participate in Tome Topple)?
