So, I absolutely love Lala‘s book haul revisits. Here‘s a link to the most recent one she has posted. I loved seeing this but it scared me. I didn’t want to have as many books as she has that I haven’t read. So I’m going to be doing mine less than a year out. I’m also not planning on unhauling any of these books but I will have to read them that month. If I don’t read it that month, I can’t buy any books. In other words, I can’t purchase any books until the haul from 7 months ago is completely read or DNF-ed if necessary.
My earliest haul is from October 2016. I purchased 9 books during that month and I actually did really well when it came to reading them. December is when it will really pick up. So I’m going to go through and list the books and whether I’ve read them or not. Then I’ll talk about the books that I will have to read and why I haven’t.
- Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs – Read 4/5
- Incarnate by Jodi Meadows – Not Finished
- The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkins – Read 5/5
- My Heart and Other Black Holes by Jasmine Warga – Read 5/5
- Dark Places by Gillian Flynn – Read 4/5
- Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson – Read 5/5
- Vassa in the Night by Sarah Porter – Not Finished
- Hollow City by Ransom Riggs – Read 4/5
- Library of Souls by Ransom Riggs – Not Read
So out of the 9 books that I bought, only 3 of them aren’t finished. And I even started 2 of the 3. So let’s get into those.
The first book that I started but never ended up finishing was Incarnate. This book takes place in a world where the same thousands or millions of souls are reincarnated. But suddenly, one soul isn’t reincarnated and a new one is. The New Soul now is going to travel to figure out why she was incarnated instead of the other soul.
This book just couldn’t seem to keep my interest. It was very slow paced. Now that I’ve read more YA books, I’m hoping that I can get back into it and finish it up.
I got Vassa in the Night in the October OwlCrate. It wasn’t a book that I had ever heard of and didn’t particularly interest me. But I did start reading it and I was enjoying it. I didn’t read the synopsis before starting this and all I know is that it’s based off some folklore. It hadn’t really captured my interest at the time of reading it so I’m hoping that it will now.
My husband got my Library of Souls after I started reading Miss Peregrine’s. I enjoyed Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children enough to continue the series. But Hollow City just seemed to fall flat for me. I listened to it on audio and I feel like that took away from the experience. I would like to finish off the series in physical form. I’m hoping that by reading it in physical form, that I enjoy it more.
So that’s three books that I need to try to finish up in May. And if I can’t buy any books until all three are read. I may have to push them up on my TBR. I’m hoping that I get through ACOWAR faster than I got through the other two.
Thanks for reading! Have you read any of these books and if so, which was your favorite?
