I'm a book lover and I hope to share that with more people! I also hope to share some of my other passions with everyone whenever I can!

Announcement!!! Happy Readathin!

Hey guys! Welcome back and if you’re new, I’m Amanda from A Court of Books and Love.

Today I have an exciting announcement! If you couldn’t tell by the title, I’m announcing the next Readathin!

Let’s just get into this!

tumblr_njbw2jKSpA1rt5pgzo1_400

Alright. So first, what is Readathin?

Readathin is a readathon that is held by Jessica from JessicaMarie493, Chelsea from A Very Bookish Girl, and myself. The goal of this readathon is to read books that you own! That’s pretty much it. If you’re reading books you own, you’re winning.

This round there’s actually a challenge that isn’t for a book you own but I’ll explain that later.

We held the first round of Readathin in August and it was such a blast! I can’t wait to have the next one in….

November!!!! The next readathin will be held in November! I know if you are following the Twitter and were around the last day of the last round, this was already announced. But for those who didn’t know, here’s the announcement!

So, now that we know when, let’s talk about some challenges!

If you have any questions, feel free to comment down below or send one of us a message asking! We’re always happy to answer any you may have!

I will have a Google Doc linked on the Twitter (if you click here you can go to the Twitter account for Readathin) so you can find just this list without the explanations to make things easier when creating your TBR.

So let’s talk challenges.

tumblr_nxeqazpkmy1s3h43ko1_500.gif

1. Read a 2017 Release

This can be any book that was released in 2017. Pretty self-explanatory. But here are a few examples of books I own.

2835

2. Read a Diverse Read

For this, you can read anything that would count as diverse. If you need some recommendations from your shelves, let us know and we can help!

22img_5470

3. Read a book that is related to your favorite emoji

Even I have a tough one with this. But that’s just because I change my emoji often. And none of my books seem to fit into it. But you can interpret this however you please.

4. Read a book with a fall-themed cover.

This is any book that is fall related. It could be fall colored, have leaves on it, etc.

10112885IMG_0643

5. Start and finish a series

This counts duologies, trilogies, or series. Whichever you think you can manage. I do recommend duologies or even a graphic novel series. Those would be easiest.

6. Read a book in 24 hours

This is pretty self explanatory. Start a book and finish it within the next 24 hours. Definitely go for a smaller book or a graphic novel.

7. Read a new to you author

Again. Easy. Read from an author you’ve never read from before.

8. Buddy read a book

Read a book along with someone else. Book clubs/buddy read groups DO count.

9. Read a horror/thriller

I wouldn’t really recommend reading Stephen King during this but it’s an example.

31

10. Read a book outside your favorite genre

Doesn’t have to be one you hate. Can even be a genre you love but it’s not your favorite. just something that is outside your favorite.

11. Read an eBook

Last time a lot of people were asking if eBooks were okay and of course they are! They are part of your TBR. So we decided to add it as a challenge!

12. Listen to the audiobook of a book you own

I love listening to audiobooks and it’s a good way to get through more books! So listen away!

13. Read a book  that counts toward another readathon

I know of two that are going on in November (possibly three) outside of Readathin. If you want to know about some, just Google it or ask one of us hosts.

14. Read the book that’s due back to the library the soonest

We wanted to incorporate some library books into this just because. So here’s one that counts towards the library. Whichever book you need to return the soonest, read that.

15. Read a book that you put down previously

In other words, a book you started but haven’t finished yet.

16. Read a book you got from a subscription box

I get OwlCrate every month and I’m so bad about reading the books I get. So November will be the one where I get to at least one of them.

17. Read a book you got for free (gift, ARC, giveaway, etc)

This could count toward so many different things from ARCs to free eBooks to library books to swap books. So many options here and make sure you go wild with it!

18. Read 4 books that count for at least 8 challenges

So for this one, you will read 4 books, each of which count toward 2 separate challenges. Here’s a little example:

Book 1: Challenge 1 and 2
Book 2: Challenge 8 and 4
Book 3: Challenge 12 and 16
Book 4: Challenge 6 and 3

We didn’t want to pressure you guys into reading a certain number of books so we made it a challenge to read that amount.

Just remember to have fun with this! It’s supposed to be fun and laid back. Let’s keep it that way.

We’re always open to questions or recommendations so make sure to let us know any that you have.

We’re unsure about the sprinting schedule right now but we will update the list if need be.

Thank you all so much for participating last time and don’t forget to use the hashtag #ReadathinNov17 to stay connected with everyone!

Share your TBRs on Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag so we can see and share them!

Thanks again everyone! Hope you enjoyed! Make sure to like this post and follow me if you liked this post and want to see more in the future.

I’ll see you guys in the next one!

Happy reading! Bye!

Top 10 Manga I Would Like to Reread

Hey everyone! Welcome back and if you’re new, I’m Amanda from A Court of Books and Love.

Today I have the top 10 manga I want to reread.

If you don’t know, I am a huge manga fan. I used to read manga so much that it got to a point where I had to stop reading it because I ran out of things I was interested in that I could find translated online.

But anyway, let’s get into this!

tumblr_njbw2jKSpA1rt5pgzo1_400

1. Fruits Basket

I have started rereading this one already but I love it so much. I can’t wait to finish the series. It’s so addicting.

2. Beauty Pop

I read this way back when and loved it. I believe that this is a middle grade one but I could be wrong on that. I just remember it being adorable.

3. Beast Master

Oh man. I’ve reread this one so much. If I remember correctly, this ends up leaving off on a cliffhanger where the translation left off. So I want to find out if I can find the rest of it somewhere so I know how it ends.

4. Say I Love You

This one is still ongoing, I believe, so I want to reread and catch up on it. I want to read them as they come out. I need to know where this one ends.

This was such a cute one. It raised my standards for guys when I first read it.

5. Sora Log

If I remember correctly, this one is a darker manga. I usually read cute little fluffy ones but there were a few thrown in there that got really dark. This is one of them, I believe. I’m excited to get back into it though. I want to know if I love it the same way I used to.

Read here

6. Five

This one is one of the problematic ones I have on here. I don’t remember exactly what was problematic about it but I just know it was. So I’ll update you guys on that whenever I get around to rereading it.

Read Here

7. Koizora (Sky Love)

Oh man. Another dark one. Holy crap. I can’t wait to see if this is the one I’ve been looking for. I read one that had a topic that hit me hard back in the day and would hit me even harder today. So I’m hoping either this one or Sora Log was it.

Read here

8. Peach Girl

I have so many mixed feelings on this. When I first watched/read it, I adored it. But I have tried a couple times since and haven’t enjoyed it as much. So I’m hoping to go through and reread it and provide a thorough review.

9. Wolf’s Rain

Someone on Instagram reminded me of this and holy crap baskets. This freaking anime. Kiba was life back in the day. And the opening music was perfection (I’ll have the video below). I freaking adored it. So I can’t wait to rewatch it and read it for the first time.

10. Dengeki Daisy

This is probably the one I’m most excited to reread. I can’t wait. I believe it’s another that’s still ongoing. I was reading this along with my brother and I started rereading it again on my phone. I ended up sending him screenshots of a bunch of funny parts.

I can’t wait to get back into it and read it as it’s ongoing.

I hope you enjoyed! Let me know if you’ve read any of these manga. Also, let me know some forbidden love manga down below. I have an addiction to them, not gonna lie.

Happy reading! Bye!

Tag Tuesday: Ruler of Books Tag

Hey everyone! Welcome back and if you’re new, I’m Amanda from A Court of Books and Love!

Today I have the Ruler of Books Tag!

This tag was created by Ariel Bissett and I found it on ValesBookshelf.

Here are some other people who have done the tag:

Let’s get into this!

tumblr_njbw2jKSpA1rt5pgzo1_400.gif

1. What book would you make everyone read?

For this I had to go with The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. My current class is focusing on writing a persuasive essay and I am focusing mine on convincing young adults to read this book.

It’s so important and timely right now that I think everyone should read it. Anyone could learn something from this book and everyone should.

2. What would you abolish from book construction?

MASS MARKET PAPERBACKS

STIFF PAPERBACKS

Not including an eBook or audiobook with the actual book!

3. What author would you commission to write you any book?

Julie Zantopoulos! I love her so much and her writing is just gorgeous. Please write me all the books Julie!

4. What book would you demote to the library basement to make room for other books?

The Mortal Instruments. Enough said.

5. What cover artist would you commission to make you a mural?

The artist of Nevernight and Godsgrave by Jay Kristoff. Holy crap those covers are beautiful.

6. What character’s face would you put on a coin?

Cassian from A Court of Mist and Fury. Holy crap he would make a gorgeous coin.

tumblr_ogfqc4hpEu1rnx2kbo1_500.gif

7. What book would you award the Ruler of Books 2017 award to?

Again, The Hate U Give. Such a gorgeous book.

That’s it! I hope you enjoyed.

Let me know down below what book you would send to the library basement.

Happy Reading! Bye!

Owlcrate Check In

Hey everyone! Welcome back and if you’re new, I’m Amanda from A Court of Books and Love.

Today I have my OwlCrate Check-in.

I have been getting OwlCrate for a year now (I hit one year this month) so I figured I would do a check in with how my reading has been for each of the books received.

Let’s just get into this.

October 2016 – Once Upon a Dream

We got Vassa in the Night by Sarah Porter in this box.

I tried to read it but I just couldn’t get into it. So I ended up DNFing it and it’s on my unhaul pile.

All I really know about it is that it’s about a girl who ends up getting stuck in a shop where they chop off the heads of people who have stolen from the shop. The writing style just wasn’t for me.

IMG_0652

November 2016 – Wonderland

In this month’s box, we got Heartless by Marissa Meyer along with Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll.

I read both and loved Heartless. Alice isn’t really for me but I adored Heartless.

Heartless is a kind of retelling of Alice in Wonderland. But instead of being a direct retelling, it’s more of a prequel about how the Queen of Hearts became who she was.
Cath just wants to be a baker and open a bakery with her best friend. But her parents want other things for her. They want her to marry the king.

25.jpg

December 2016 – Epic

This month we got Of Fire and Stars by Audrey Coulthurst.

I was so nervous about going into this book but I ended up buddy reading it and I’m so grateful I did! I ended up loving this book.

This is a female/female romance about two princesses. One (Denna) is supposed to marry the other’s (Mare) brother. To make things harder on this relationship, Denna can do magic and Mare’s country is against the use of magic.

IMG_0654

January 2017 – Classic Remix

This month we ended up getting Roseblood by AG Howard.

I haven’t read this yet but I plan on reading it this month for one of the readathons I’m doing!

All I know about this book is that it’s a retelling of Phantom of the Opera.

IMG_0655

February 2017 – Run Away With the Circus

We got Caraval by Stephanie Garber with this box.

I read this and absolutely adored it. I can’t wait for the second one, Legendary.

This book is about a carnival that two sisters want to be invited to more than anything. Before one of the sisters ends up getting married, they get an invitation. But when they get there, the other sister gets kidnapped and the goal of the game is to find the sister.

IMG_0656

March 2017 – Sailors, Ships and Sea

This month’s box came with Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller.

I haven’t read this book but I may end up reading it for Readathin in November.

All I really know about this book is that it’s about the daughter of, you guessed it, a pirate king. From what I know, she ends up getting purposely kidnapped for some reason and I believe there is a romance with the kidnapper.

IMG_0657

April 2017 – Head Over Heels

We got Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli in this box.

I haven’t read it yet but I plan on it in November for Contemporaryathon.

This book is about a girl who has had many crushes on boys. I believe that this book is about her finding a boy who she thinks is going to be “the one.” But everything becomes a jumbled mess when her coworker, an unlikely candidate, makes things all sorts of confusing.

May 2017 – Comic Explosion

Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia was included in this box.

I have read this and absolutely adored it. Once of my favorites of the year, I’d have to say.

This book is about a girl who writes one of the most popular webcomics online. But she keeps this a secrets from everyone in her life. When the new boy starts as school and reveals that he writes the most popular fanfiction for her webcomic, things get messy. They become even worse when our main character starts to fall for him and debates whether she should tell him who she is or not.

June 2017 – Make It Out Alive

This book was The Sandcastle Empire by Kayla Olsen and New World Rising by Jennifer Wilson.

This is probably the book that I’m least interested in out of all of the books I’ve gotten. I’m not even sure what it’s about so I can’t give a synopsis. Maybe I’ll do a try a chapter tag soon and include this one in there.

img_4553

July 2017 – Wanderlust

Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee

I am so disappointed in myself for not having read this yet. I started it and loved it but never continued.

This book is about a boy who loves getting drunk and partying. But to get his inheritance and take over his father’s business, he needs to go on a tour of Europe to help him sober up and stop partying. On this journey, he’s joined by his best friend… and his crush. So he needs to try to figure out how to get out from under his “babysitter” and have some fun, all while hiding his secret love.

IMG_1152

August 2017 – Something Wicked This Way Comes

The Hearts We Sold by Emily Lloyd Jones and Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving

When  I first heard about this book while doing my new releases post, I was interested immediately. I can’t wait to get to this one, hopefully, soon. I haven’t read Sleepy Hollow either.

This is about a girl who ends up selling her heart to a demon in exchange for something (I can’t remember what). She meets someone who has also sold something to a demon and starts to fall for him. But can she do this and live without her heart?

September 2017 – Mythical Creatures

Before She Ignites by Jodi Meadows

I haven’t read this yet but I am so interested in this even though I barely know anything about it. I have only read one book by Jodi Meadows and I ended up DNFing it. So I want to give her another try.

All I know about this is that it’s about dragons. That’s all I need to know. Dragons are cool (insert Matt Smith as the Doctor voice).

So to sum all of this up for you guys who didn’t want to read it:

I got 15 books!

I read 5 of them. Insert the shame now.

So I have a lot to catch up on. There is one that I DNFed and will be getting rid of but still.

I hope you enjoyed this post! Let me know if you get OwlCrate!

Happy Reading! Bye!
