Wrap Up: November, Readathin, Contemporaryathon, Scallywagathon, Emojiathon

Hey everyone! Welcome back and if you’re new, I’m Amanda from A Court of Books and Love.

Today I have my wrap up for November, which includes Readthin, Scallywagathon, Contemporaryathon, and Emojiathon.

I ended up reading 5 books and DNFed 2

2 were physical copies
5 were ebooks

3 were arcs

My ratings were rather high but there were a couple low ones.

I don’t know the page count because I DNFed two. But it wasn’t too much.

Let’s talk about the books.

Prophecy Awakened by Tamar Sloan

This is the first book that I ended up DNFing. I ended up DNFing it at 78%. It wasn’t because of the book. I was enjoying it enough. But it just wasn’t interesting me enough. It was too “young” for me. I definitely think I would have enjoyed it more if I had read it earlier in my life.

I ended up getting this from NetGalley for my honest review.

Overall, I gave this book 6 out of 20 points. Transferring to 1.5 stars.

Most of the points I gave were one point for each category, except the writing. I gave that 2. I just wasn’t a fan of this book at this point in my life.

Diamond by JA Low

I absolutely adored this book. 17 out of 20 points and 4.5 stars! I loved it so much. I got this book from NetGalley for my honest review. I ended up doing a full review, which you can view here.

Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller

Another book I adored! I gave this one 19 out of 20 points and 5 stars. I absolutely adored it. I also did a full review of this book here.

Saga Vol 1 by Brian K Vaughan and Fiona Staples

I enjoyed this but it wasn’t anything super special to me. It still got a 17 out of 20 points and 4.5 stars but it wasn’t anything super ground breakin to me. It was well written but it just didn’t really hit me the way that I would have thought it would. I’m still debating continuing.

Suddenly Dirty by JA Low

Another one that I absolutely adored. I can’t get over how much I love JA Low’s writing. There’s a trigger warning for miscarriage, though, so be weary. There are a few things that kind of irked me but overall, I really enjoyed it.

I gave this book 16/20 points and 4.5 stars.

Faster Than A Kiss Vol 1

This was a reread for me and holy crap. I don’t even know why I liked this the first time. It was so weird. I didn’t give it a star rating or a point rating but man. It was weird.

Royal Pain by Tracy Wolff

And here’s the other book that I DNFed. I decided to DNF it at like 18%. It wasn’t my style at all. I’ve come to realize that I don’t like a lot of adult books. This, unfortunately, was one of the ones that I didn’t like.

I got this book from NetGalley for my honest review. I didn’t do a full review but I did review what I read of it. I gave it 10 out of 20 points and 3 stars.

I feel like people who like just guilty pleasure, mindless adult books, would probably like this. But it just wasn’t more me.

Now, let’s wrap up the readathons I participated in!

I completed all four challenges with 3 books. Here’s what I read for it and what challenges I completed.

Diamond – Davy Jones’s Locker – Involves Death

Daughter of the Pirate King – Crow’s Nest – New Release You’ve Had Your Eyes On

Saga – X Marks The Spot – Book A Friend Treasures, Ropes End – Read in a day

I ended up completing 5 challenges with 2 books.

Suddenly Dirty – Read your most recently purchased/recieved contemporary, Read an adult contemporary

Faster Than a Kiss – Read a contemporary that is over 5 years old, Read a contemporary not set in summer, Read a dark or taboo contemporary

I failed this. I didn’t finish a single book during this readathon.

I completed 11 challenges with 3 books. I feel accomplished for Readathin.

Daughter of the Pirate King – Read a 2017 release, Read a book that is related to your favorite emoji (the crying laughing face), Read a new to you author, Read a book you ended up putting down previously, Read a book you got from a subscription box

Diamond – Read a book you got for free, Read a horror/thriller (this definitely has a thriller aspect to it, to me), Read a book outside your favorite genre (I’m not a fan of adult books so it counts), Read an ebook

Saga – Read a book that counts toward another readathon, Read a book in 24 hours

And, in case you’re wondering, here are the months we’ll be hosting Readathin in 2018!

TBR: Holiday Emojiathon/Minimoji

Hey everyone! Welcome back and if you’re new, I’m Amanda from A Court of Books and Love.

Today I have my TBR for Emojiathon!

You can find the Twitter for Emojiathon here.

The challenges are on this document if you would like to view them all.

Let’s get into this.

Eating Animals by Jonathan Safran Foer

I started this book long before I got into BookTube and back into reading, but I got about halfway through and put it down.

If you don’t know, I’m a vegetarian. I have been for a year and four months now (I have a counter on my phone xD). And before that, I had been for over two years, but decided to stop because I got pregnant for my son. But this book is so hard for me to read. It’s so hard hitting and makes me rethink everything. Which is the point of it and that makes me happy, but man oh man. I can only take doses of this. But I’m hoping to be able to finish it. I only have about half of it left. I think it was less than 100 pages.

This will apply for the challenges book with green on the cover and ghost of Christmas past – read a book that’s been haunting your TBR for over a year.

Doctor Who: Twelve Doctors of Christmas

I was originally going to wait to read this until Christmas, but it fits for this readathon so perfectly! So I’m going to read a story throughout the week. I’ll be starting it prior to Emojiathon starting but that’s okay.

From what I gathered, these are just some Doctor Who like stories, each from one of the Doctor’s POVs., all on Christmas.

This will count for the challenges of a book that has the Christmas spirit (a Christmas book), book set in winter, book with snow on the cover, and book that features travel. I’ll choose two out of those at the end of the readathon but those are what it could count for.

When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon

I got this book when it came out and I still haven’t read it. I’m so excited to get into it. I believe I’m buddy reading this with Donna from A Mom’s Book Collection and Jessica from JessicaMarie493. I’m just super excited to get into it.

All I really know about this book is that the two main characters are arranged to be married by their families, he supports it and she doesn’t. They end up in the same computer coding camp one summer and, I believe, she finds out about the arranged marriage there.

This will count for warm/fuzzy read, shiny new toy – read a book you’ve been dying to get to, and dreaming of Christmas in July – a book set in summer.

So that’s it for my TBR! It’s not a very large on but it’s only a week so finishing 3 books would be exciting.

I hope you enjoyed and I’ll see you in the next one. Don’t forget to like this post and follow my blog and Instagram for more book related photos.

Happy reading! Bye!
